How social media consumption is stealing your creativity
Tapping into a flow state vs. giving it away to AI
In early fall spending time on things like Instagram left me feeling drained and uninspired. I noticed that I was pouring my life force, my creativity, and my time into these things that weren’t producing the results that I wanted. Don’t get me wrong, I love to share and see what others are doing and creating but sometimes you need less input. A digital detox, if you will. I think when we feel these nudges it’s important to listen to them.
We often desire something new but we aren’t willing to part ways with what is currently in our life filling up space.
There are few things that give my life meaning and true fulfillment. Things like meaningful interactions with others, helping someone in need, and time to express my creativity. Without those I am not living a full and rich life. I invite you too to take a day, a week (or a few), offline. To live your life fully immersed, without the comparison loops, or anything that makes you feel like you and your life are not enough, as it is. If it’s not all that you want it to be then I hope this pause reveals where you might spend your energy in order to create the life you daydream of.

I recently stumbled upon this clip discussing the affects of AI doing the creative process for you. You submit a few thoughts and it takes the whole creative process from you and spits out a masterpiece.
Is it kind of cool? Yes! It also feels like its robbing you of your own gift as creator. As she mentions, so many artists, and I can relate to this, create from a flow state. When we allow space for output, rather than input and distraction we’re in a receptive state. We are open to receiving our own downloads, wisdom, and clarity. This is a beautiful (and authentic) place to create from.
So I think you have to ask, where do we draw the line between using this incredible tool to help refine something that we are working on vs. allowing it to create for us… ultimately removing the gift of creation.
Enjoyed receiving this reminder!
